Cast Discharge Heads

Many of the past articles found here on the CPS-Pumps blog deal with the pump end when talking about vertical turbines.  The discharge head is arguably just as important as it connects the pump to the system piping and it is the only part typically visible to the end user.  CPS-Pumps offers cast discharge heads from a 4″ through 16″ (4″, 6″, 8″, 10″, 12″, 14 & 16″) which makes it one of the largest offerings available anywhere in the world.

All of the CPS-Pumps discharge heads feature heavy cast bases (for settings through 750 feet), high ring bases (for easy access to the stuffing box or tension tube assembly), o-ring discharge faces (when used rate the head to 250 PSI) and extended discharge flanges (so the discharge flange does not interfere with the system piping when pulling a pump out of service).  Casting quality is unmatched and the CPS-Pumps logo is visible for all to see!!  These unique and specifiable features and benefits are respected by the engineering community and expected from the end users.

All cast discharge heads also feature a P-Base register so that easy mounting of hollo-shaft or solid shaft motors can be done quickly and efficiently.  These heads use standard 3.125″, 3.750″ and 5.000″ registers so that the client can use universal stuffing boxes, tension tube assemblies or mechanical seal chambers.  This incredible amount of flexibility covers all options that are expected when offering a complete vertical turbine product line.

All cast discharge heads also feature heavy ribbing to minimize vibration especially when used on variable speed applications.  Cast integral lifting lugs also make it very easy to install and remove the pump assembly when in the field.  Standard duty heads are available in 4″, 6″, 8″ & 10″ sizes while heavy duty heads are available in 8″, 10″, 12″, 14″ & 16″ sizes.  A standard 1″ port is also located on the head for a discharge gauge, air relief valve or pressure relief valve.

All heads can be poured in a variety of optional materials upon request.  Class 30 cast iron is standard.  Ductile iron, 316 stainless steel, duplex and super duplex stainless steel as well as high chrome iron are only a few of the options.  Any off the discharge heads can be internally or externally coated with dozens of custom coatings including epoxies, powder coatings and custom colors all based off of the clients specifications.

One very unique feature of the entire CPS-Pump cast discharge head offering is that 14″ and 16″ heads are also available.  All other manufacturers stop at a 10″ or 12″ size making a fabricated head the only option in larger applications.  The CPS-Pumps 14″ & 16″ cast heads are a fraction of the cost of the fabricated counterpart.  Thousands of dollars in cost that allow CPS-Pumps to be a better option from a pricing standpoint.
