Our product line is manufactured from castings offered in dozens of different materials.  The engineered selection of those materials and the manufacturing process utilized by a pump manufacturer says a lot about their commitment to the product line.  CPS-Pumps has invested millions of dollars into these processes and the tolling required to manufacture a world class product line.  Gauge the manufacturer on the standard materials they offer and compare them to the others in the industry.  Demand the highest quality materials available today and do not settle for inferior materials, regardless of how these other materials are marketed.

The impeller is the heart of the pump and has a serious impact on the performance of the unit.  CPS-Pumps has one of the most diverse product lines available in the marketplace today spanning the complete horizontal and vertical pump orientations.  Each of our 29 product lines has unique impeller designs and are manufactured out of very unique materials.

With the lead content in impellers being more of an issue in potable water applications throughout the United States, the need to find a better solution is at the forefront of our engineering focus.  Five plus years ago, CPS-Pumps decided to change our standard impeller material from highly leaded bronzes to other stainless steel alloys.  Many manufacturers have continued with bronze derivatives while others have decided to lead the marketplace by offering superior metallurgical options.  Why offer bronze alloys when stainless steel materials are readily available.

CPS-Pumps now standardizes 90% of our current offering on investment cast, 304 stainless steel material for our impeller castings.  This process is much more intensive than a sand cast process but offers a surface finish that is far superior in every comparison.  The metal tooling required for this casting process is more expensive on the front end but offers a superior casting that requires minimal machining and balancing during the manufacturing process.  Porosity in this casting process is also virtually eliminated while in a sand cast process there is still a high incidence of this pervasive issue.  Many pump manufacturers still struggle with these porosity issues.  In certain cases these defects are unfortunately discovered by their customers.  Surface roughness has a serious effect on efficiency and can be detrimental to pump performance.  Our investment cast impellers are of the highest quality material available anywhere in the industry today and are manufactured using the most state-of-the art processes.

In addition to the surface finish advantages, performance gains, elimination of porosity and minimal machining and balancing, this 304 stainless steel material is far superior to the brass impellers offered by other manufacturers today.  For manufacturers that have standardized on high zinc alloy impellers, chlorinated municipal applications will consume these impellers in no time at all.  The hardness of our 304 stainless steel impellers as compared to these other bronze alloys is also far superior.  When bronze alloys are used by CPS-Pumps, we standardize on C95400 which is an Aluminum bronze derivative.  This alloy of bronze possess the highest strength of any copper based alloy available in the market today.  Said simply, the harder your base material, the longer it will survive in your application.
